About the organization

A fifty-year legacy rooted in service, visibility, and education.

San Antonio Queen of Soul, Inc. is a nonprofit, non-political 501(c)(3) organization and member of the Fiesta San Antonio Commission.

Our Mission

To find that unique young lady, between the ages of 18-24, who embodies poise, self-esteem, and academic excellence to wear the crown of Miss Queen of Soul.

Our Vision

The pageant training program supports the educational goals of young African-American women in the San Antonio area through leadership, growth, and representation.

Our Story

The organization's conception in the late 1960s was the vision of Gracie Poe and several civic-minded individuals who sought to address the lack of inclusion of the African-American community in Fiesta activities.

What the organization does

Once accepted as a PMO Participating Member Organization, the board began an annual ritual of holding a Queen of Soul contestant presentation, reception, and pageant for the community. The selected Queen and her court represent the community at Fiesta celebrations and other civic activities.

Contestant preparation

Potential contestants are recruited from schools, churches, and other local sources. The training program reinforces charm, poise, talent enhancement, etiquette, and self-esteem while helping participants grow in confidence.

Scholarship impact

Scholarship support emphasizes the importance of higher education and helps motivated young women pursue academic goals while representing their community with excellence.
